2 Minute Beach Cleans

Doing a 2 minute beach clean is a really quick and easy way for you to be a Good Samaritan and do your bit to help with the huge problem of marine litter.

Every year, an estimated 6.4 million tonnes of litter enters the world’s oceans! Plastic poses the biggest threat as it doesn’t just disappear; it simply breaks down into smaller and smaller pieces and has detrimental effects at all levels of the food chain- from microscopic plankton to huge whales and dolphins.

How to take part

But everyone can help - all you need to do is spend 2 minutes picking up litter every time you visit the beach. Once you’re done, take a photo of your haul and post it on Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag “#2minutebeachclean Dorset”. Your photo then appears with everyone else’s at www.beachclean.net to encourage others to do the same.

You may not think you can pick up much in 2 minutes but if everyone does this across the country, thousands of pieces of marine litter can be removed from Britain’s beaches every day.

Stay safe and recycle

Whilst doing your 2 minute beach clean please ensure you keep yourself safe and take a look at the safety poster (right). Dispose of your litter responsibly, you can put it in a bin at the beach or take it home with you and recycle as much as you can.

Now that you know all about doing 2 minute beach cleans, why not get out and enjoy the amazing Dorset coastline and do you bit to help the marine life that lives there.
