Dorchester People and Wildlife Day

 22nd May 2009

Emily (1) and the tree N HOAROur People and Wildlife Day comes to Dorchester's beautiful Borough Gardens on Saturday 6th June.  One of the BBC Breathing Places 'Dirty Weekend' events across the country to coincide with Springwatch on BBC TV, the People and Wildlife Day will be packed with wildlife activities and fun for the whole family.

As the gardens put on their best show, there will be a focus on wildlife friendly gardening, with plant pot decoration and wild flower seed planting for the children.

There will, of course, be appearances from real live wildlife, including moths in the moth trap, mini-beasts, aquatic animals and more.

The children also get a chance to enter their own walk for wildlife with the 'Wildlife Toddle', a 1km challenge for tinies.

Joy Wallis, People and Wildlife Co-ordinator at Dorset Wildlife Trust, said: "Having the event right here in the middle of Dorchester and just about the middle of Dorset too, we hope that lots of families will be able to join us.  Bring the whole family and find out about your local wildlife and what you can do to help but, most importantly, just come and have a great day."

The People and Wildlife Day is on Saturday 6th June from 11 am to 3 pm in Dorchester Borough Gardens, Cornwall Road and it's FREE. The Wildlife Toddle costs £5 to enter and Mum goes free.  The gardens are easily accessible by bus and train, situated between the two Dorchester train stations.  Bikes are welcome.  Cars should be parked in public car parks at Top of Town or Market Place.  For more information, contact us on 01305 264620.
