| The Helen Brotherton Award for Volunteering and the Young Volunteer of the Year were both presented at the Annual General Meeting of the Trust on 10th September. |
The Helen Brotherton Award for 2010 went to Alison Jay, who has had a rather busy year of volunteering! Not only has she been working in the office every week keeping the online events guide as well as the volunteering database up to date , she has also found time to get stuck into several practical groups.
Alison has worked on many work parties throughout the year including West Dorset, Urban Volunteers, Muddy Wellies at Kingcombe and also assisting Sam Hamer with his bunch of young volunteers. All this on top of a job as an assistant tutor at Leeson House! Alison was very surprised at the news of her gaining the Award and was quite literally speechless for several minutes! |
| The nominations were all very highly regarded and the panel also felt that a certificate of recognition should be awarded to Tony Stables, Sue Sansom, Myra Sealy and Steve Rocliffe. |

Tony Stables is the Secretary for the North Dorset group, and has been instrumental in the management and organisation of the talks and field trips programme.
Steve Rocliffe is another volunteer at Kimmeridge. He cycled 650 miles from Lundy to Parliament to raise funds and awareness for marine conservation, and also represented DWT at a 10 Downing Street reception.
Sue Sansom is a very busy volunteer at Kimmeridge, always on hand to help out and responsible for lost of new ideas for engaging with schools and children at the centre.
Myra Sealy leads the very succesful Charmouth Watch Group for young children, and also sits on the West Dorset Committe as a very active member - including organising the christmas meal.

A presentation of Young Volunteer 2010 was also made to Becky Hewins. Becky has been volunteering with us for well over a year, whilst studying meteorology at Reading Uni. She joins us every holiday without fail and is our champion blogger - creating inspiring and humerous anecdotes of days out with the team. |
