Dorset Wildlife Trust is asking you to get your walking boots or running shoes on for Walk for Wildlife 2009. This year's event has three new routes, all starting and finishing at the MGFT Animal Sanctuary in Church Knowle, and taking in the spectacular countryside and coastal paths of Purbeck. There's a choice of routes to suit all ages and abilities: 5 miles, 10 miles and 20 miles. Runners will be challenging themselves with the 10-mile Dorset Demon, with their own special start time at 9.30 am.
Kizzy Brown, Marketing and Fundraising Manager for Dorset Wildlife Trust, said: "This is a wonderful day out for all the family, as well as a chance to help raise funds for the incredible countryside and wildlife around us. Please do join us and make this our best year yet! "
It costs just £10 for adults to take part, £5 for children and £25 for a family of four to enter if you register before the 31st August, and everybody who takes part will receive a medal. Entrants are also encouraged to raise sponsorship for the event, with badges and T shirts among the incentives for participants to raise those all important funds.
This is the second year that the Walk for Wildlife has been based at Church Knowle. Kizzy adds: "We are very grateful to the MGFT Animal Sanctuary for making us so welcome and providing the ideal base for what has become a key event in the Dorset calendar as well as an important fundraiser for wildlife."
Walk for Wildlife 2009 is on Sunday 20th September. To enter, or for more information, contact Dorset Wildlife Trust on 01305 264620 or register online here
If you don't fancy walking, you can still join in, as Dorset Wildlife Trust is looking for people to help out on the day. You could help at the checkpoints to book walkers through, welcome finishers with a medal or even help to pour out cups of tea. If you have a few hours to spare on the day and would like to help, please call Kizzy Brown on 01305 264620.
