Unique Art of the Natural World

 20th May 2010

Forest Fruits by Sarah Ross-Thompson (photo: Dorset Wildlife Trust)Art and wildlife come together for this year’s Dorset Art Weeks, with the opening of The Wildlife Art Exhibition on May 29th, hosted by Dorset Wildlife Trust.  Organisers have been able to secure a wide variety of media by some of Dorset’s leading artists in this field for the two-week event in the beautiful Cerne Valley.

Stunning works inspired by nature

Fiona Sansom, Supporter Development Manager at Dorset Wildlife Trust, said: “This will be a stunning collection of exceptional examples of art featuring the natural world, ranging from land and seascapes to detailed studies and encompassing pottery, glass and even walking sticks.  We are particularly fortunate to be able to include the unique hand-made prints of the late Rena Gardiner, a long-time supporter of DWT, who designed, scripted, printed and published her own books on historical locations across Britain, including the East Winterborne Valley and Isle of Purbeck.”

New artists join old favourites

The wood and metal sculpture that proved so popular at the Exhibition two years ago, by artists Bruno Charron and David Metcalff, will be on display, together with Ellie O’Shea’s oil paintings.  The Overseers by Sarah Ross-Thompson (photo: Dorset Wildlife Trust)Many new artists’ work will also be on show, such as Sarah Ross-Thompson’s vibrant collagraphy a form of printing using materials that are arranged as a collage as well as the intriguing ‘Tree Faces’ photographs of Cathy Chapman, the robust and colourful glass of Sally Servian and the magical mushroom paintings, in gouache and watercolour, by fungi specialist Ron Karley.
