 An adult dogfish has been spotted recently by divers near the dense brittlestar beds off Broadbench at Kimmeridge. Dogfish egg cases (mermaid purses) are often found washed up on the shore in the reserve and we currently have a live one in the marine centre. The dogfish will develop within the egg case for 6-9 months, living off a large yolk before hatching whereupon it will be released back in to the sea.
