Christchurch goes wild

 9th Jul 2008

Stanpit view to Priory DWTDorset Wildlife Trust is inviting families to make a wild start to the summer holidays at its Urban Wildlife Day.   The free fun day brings something for all the family to the beautiful waterfront at Christchurch from a wide range of local conservation groups.  There will be real live wildlife, including moths, small mammals and reptiles, as well as the chance to take a bird watching boat trip.  The day also features music, story telling and lots of activities for children.

Christchurch is famous as a medieval market town with a beautiful priory, but less well known is its rich and diverse wildlife.  With the Rivers Stour and Avon and the saltmarshes and reedbeds of its natural harbour, Christchurch has an amazing variety of wetland habitats as well and heaths, woods and grassland.

Amanda Cooke, Senior People and Wildlife Officer at Dorset Wildlife Trust, said: "This is a chance for all the family to discover the wonderful plants and animals that make Christchurch special."

The Urban Wildlife Day is at The Quomps, Town Quay, Christchurch on Saturday 26th July from 10.30 am to 3.30 pm.   To book the bird watching boat trip or for more information, ring Amanda Cooke on 01202 642780.
