Bat Conservation
Dorset is home to Britain's16 resident bat species but populations are declining through loss of insect prey, winter hibernation and breeding sites.
Bats & roosts are legally protected
All Bats and their roosts are protected under UK & European laws, with six species marked as 'a priority' in the UK Biodiversity Action Plan.
Bats & Planning applications
Several bat species roost in buildings - including private homes - but rarely cause problems. As roosts are protected, if you are planning building works contact Natural England for advice before starting.
