We're on the look out for brave women to take part in an island challenge right here in Dorset
Hardy Women
This will involve up to 25 intrepid women spending two whole nights out in the wild on Brownsea Island. There will be no creature comforts, no luxuries, just you and the open air.
Entrants can expect to build their own shelters, find food, learn about the wildlife on the island as well as taking part in fun and challenging activities over the two days. Participants will be staying on a deserted part of the island and will have to fend for themselves for the whole weekend of Friday 11th - Sunday 13th September 2009.
Kizzy Brown, Marketing and Fundraising Manager for Dorset Wildlife Trust, who is organising the event and will also be taking part, says: "This is a great chance to learn about wildlife and also to get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. With no men around we women can show how capable we are of coping without the things we take for granted around us. No mobile phones, no make up and no hair straighteners. It's a challenge, but what an experience!"
How to Enter
It costs £40 to enter this event and this includes your boat passage and landing fee to the island along with all the weekend's activities plus guides on hand to ensure that all runs smoothly. Participants must be over sixteen. This is a sponsored event and Dorset Wildlife Trust hopes that entrants will try to raise as much as they possibly can for the charity, with a minimum of £100.
About Brownsea Island
Brownsea Island, situated in Poole Harbour, is home to Sika deer and some of the rarest creatures in the UK, including our native red squirrel and elusive water vole. Dorset Wildlife Trust manages the nature reserve on the National Trust owned island, which is rich in woodland, lakes and reedbeds as well as a lagoon which hosts internationally important numbers of wading birds. Funds raised from the event will go towards protecting this magnificent reserve.
