A neglected area for coastal wildlife is set to give up its secrets, with the help of wildlife enthusiasts across Dorset. 
 

Artists impression of new Chesil beach centreThe proposed development and enhancement of the Chesil Beach Centre is all set to go ahead in time for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games sailing events, following the award of £550,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF).

West Dorset’s coastal wildlife comes under the spotlight at Dorset Wildlife Trust’s expert-guided walk at Charmouth, looking at the different habitats on this important stretch of coastline. The free event is aimed at people who would like to get involved in the new marine volunteers group in west Dorset as well as current volunteers.

Want to know your blenny from your goby or your edible from your shore crab? How about understanding more about Marine Protected Areas and the differences between European and National Marine Sites? Now Dorset Wildlife Trust is offering the chance to find out more about marine biology and conservation while volunteering at the Fine Foundation Marine Centre, Kimmeridge Bay.

Shark Sculptures ER MS 089 a(59)The Shark-Sand Sculpture competition was a huge success. The sun was shining as over 100 people gathered on the beach to take part in the competition. British shark species started appearing all over the beach as the day progressed. 23 sharks were finished in total, all meticulously carved out of the sand by enthusiastic shark supporters.
