Wildlife Friendly Garden Competition, click here to see more about the story ( Photo by N Hoar)As gardens become increasingly important strongholds for much of our native wildlife, a competition has been launched to find the most wildlife friendly gardens in Dorset.

Spiny black male by Mike MarkeyIn 2009 The Seahorse Trust began a Seahorse Tagging Project in Studland Bay which aims to find out more about the lives of our native seahorses. It may answer questions such as 'How large a territory do seahorses have?' and 'Do seahorses pair up for life?' Some of these questions have been answered in just the first year of the project. The information gathered will aid decisions on future management of Studland Bay and other seahorse locations. Find out more by downloading this PDF

Seahorse PosterLast summer, beach wardens were present on Studland Beach talking to visitors about the seahorses and other marine wildlife of the bay. Their questionnaire survey asked 'Do you feel the site ought to be protected?' Results showed that over 68% of people questionned felt it should be protected and less than 1% felt there was no need to interfere.
