Dorset Wildlife Trust is inviting people to enjoy a September ramble through the beautiful Lorton Valley next Saturday. One of Weymouth’s best kept secrets, the Lorton Meadows Nature Reserve has a wealth of wildlife habitats, including woods, meadows and ponds, as well as spectacular views over the Jurassic Coast.
The Visitor Centre will be open for refreshments, gifts and wildlife books and Dorset Wildlife Trust staff will be on hand to answer your wildlife questions. There is a range of marked trails to follow plus a guided ramble in the afternoon to look for the special wildlife of late summer in the meadows, including seeds, berries and invertebrates. Booking essential for the guided Wildlife Ramble, which costs £1. Suitable for families but no unaccompanied children, please.
The Lorton Meadows Open Day is on Saturday 18th September from 10am to 4pm. There are refreshments, gifts and parking at the Visitor Centre. The guided Wildlife Ramble is at 2pm, finishing around 4pm with refreshments. £1 per person.
