Nest Box Challenge

Families making nest boxes

Native birds of prey on display

A team of enthusiastic and creative students from Bournemouth University took on the Nest Box Challenge set by Amanda Cooke our Senior People and Wildlife Officer.

As part of their degree in Event Management the 8 students had to plan and deliver an event set by an external organisation. We decided on our popular family nest box building event.

The location was set in King's Park, Boscombe as this deprived area is a target under the Heritage Lottery funded New Frontiers Project.  We invited families to make a nest box and put it up in their own garden.

Over 70 boxes were made so blue tits, great tits and sparrows in Boscombe will fair a better chance of successfully breeding this year.  Other activities included the fascinating birds of prey display and an excellent fundraising raffle and face painting.

A big thank you to the students for their help and also Travis Perkins for supplying the timber for the nest boxes.

If you are a student and are interested in a work experience placement at Dorset Wildlife Trust have a look at our volunteering vacancies.
