Brownsea Island’s nature reserve is the first to benefit from a partnership between Dorset Wildlife Trust and fashion retailer, New Look. Signing up as a Wildlife Partner for 3 years, the international chain with Dorset roots has pledged to support the work of Dorset’s biggest nature conservation charity across the county, including sending staff out to do practical conservation work with reserve wardens.
Rare species to benefit from New Look helpers
New Look staff had no hesitation in choosing Brownsea Island for their first year’s assignments, setting their sights on improving woodland habitats for native red squirrels and meadows for wild orchids in the Dorset Wildlife Trust nature reserve on the National Trust owned island.
Chris Thain, Dorset Wildlife Trust Manager at Brownsea Island nature reserve, said: “We are very pleased that New Look staff have chosen to help us to manage the nature reserve for its important wildlife. Their work will help to secure not only the population of red squirrels, for which Brownsea is well known, but also the southern marsh orchids that flower in the meadows.”
Become a Wildlife Partner and support conservation in Dorset
Marie Tysall-Blay, Head of Group Communications and Social Responsibility at New Look, said: “We’re passionate about looking after our environment and are delighted to support Dorset Wildlife Trust in the important work that it does. Our employee volunteering programme gives our people the chance to contribute their time and energy to help conserve an environment rich in wildlife for everyone to enjoy.”
Wildlife Partner status, while supporting conservation across the county, also entitles staff to Dorset Wildlife Trust benefits, including discounted membership.
