The Purbeck Marine Wildlife Reserve Partnership

The Purbeck Marine Wildlife Reserve (PMWR) is a partnership involving many organisations and individuals that work together to conserve the very special marine environment found around Kimmerdige Bay.

The Smedmore Estate

The Smedmore Estate is a key member of the partnership and provides invaluable support to the management of PMWR.  The estate enables public access to Kimmeridge Bay and has provided space for the establishment of the Fine Foundation Marine Centre and the installation of interpretation boards to inform visitors about the value of the local marine environment.

The Army

The presence of the Army on land adjacent to PMWR has also helped to keep the area special.  Worbarrow Bay is an important part of PMWR and access to the bay is maintained by the Army through the disused village of Tyneham.

Other Stakeholders

Other important stakeholders include the local authorities, local fisherman, anglers, geologists, recreational users and a wide range of special interest groups.  More details about stakeholders and the management of PMWR is available in the Purbeck Marine Wildlife Reserve Management Plan.
