Roadside Verges Project

We need your help in protecting the county's wildlife-rich roadside verges.

Many of Dorset's roadside verges provide 'conservation areas' for meadow plants and the butterflies and insects that live alongside them.

DWT and Dorset County Council work together to manage the 100 wildlife-rich verges already identified and these special sites are now marked with posts to prevent untimely verge cutting during key wildlife annual cycles.

You could help our existing team of volunteers by 'adopting' a stretch of verge near you

  • help with scrub clearance
  • undertake species surveys
  • keep an eye on the area to ensure it's not cut at the wrong time of year.
