Explore the Portland Quarry Trail

This trail lets you explore the rich heritage of the Portland quarries and follow the routes of some of the original horse-drawn tramways that carried wooden wagons of stone to the dock. The walks will take you through contrasting landscapes both old and new, showcasing some of the island's amazing geology, history and wildlife.

A leaflet pack is available from many visitor centres in the area, detailing the reserves along the route and suggested walks. You can also download the pdf versions of these leaflet below. You will need a pdf reader such as the free one from Adobe.

Check out live images of our roosting owls

Lorton Meadows nature reserve is a great site for birds of prey due to the abundance of small mammals they like to feed on. We have cameras in several raptor nest boxes on the reserve and have watched barn owls, tawny owls and kestrels successfully rear young. These cameras will be live again in the spring for another breeding season. Currently the only box that is occupied is the barn owl nest box. You can watch them live here.
