Our  Urban Programme

Almost half of Dorset's population live in urban conurbations - Poole, Bournemouth, Christchurch.
That's why DWT is keen to engage town dwellers' support for their new Urban Programme, which aims to promote and enhance biodiversity in built-up areas of Dorset by engaging local community groups in nature conservation activities and managing DWT's nature reserves in east Dorset.

The Urban Programme will focus on 6 key areas:

  • Conservation advice for planners, developers and landowners and putting aspects of the Dorset Biodiversity Strategy into action in an urban context
  • Work alongside local community groups, businesses, local authorities and other organisations to develop strategies that will enhance and conserve their local environment.
  • Support local communities in the development and ongoing management of community wildlife sites, including land owned/leased by DWT
  • Provide formal/informal education and training activities for local people
  • Engaging with people who often have little opportunutiy to get involved in conservation.
  • Promoting conservation and Increasing DWT's profile
