Our Senior People and Wildlife Officer, Noel Bergin has been working with the local community to develop a wildlife sensory garden at Verwood Hub. This exciting new project will see the creation of five sensory flower beds, an accessible spiral path and seating around the garden.
Over the coming weeks we will add news of how the garden is taking shape and hopefully by the summer, the garden will be awash with sounds, colours and smells and also be a wildlife haven in Verwood.
Last December, people who use the services at the Verwood Opportunity Centre along with local school children helped us to plant willow whips to form living wigwams. As they grow, these can be used by groups for drama or art, as well as enjoyed by visitors of the Hub.
A wildlife hedgerow was also planted along the boundary which will create ideal habitats for local wildlife, providing both cover and food for birds and mammals. It is also hoped that fruit trees in the hedge including cherry and apple will produce fruit that can be harvested by local children to use at school!
