What is wildlife friendly beef?

Grazing is integral to the creation and management of wildlife-rich grasslands.  However most of Dorset's diverse and most botanically interesting grasslands are tricky for farmers to manage due to:

  • isolation of the site and/or
  • the poor nutrient value of the grasses available for livestock to eat.

Traditional breeds of livestock can often cope better with 'conservation grazing' as they are genetically suited to graze nutritionally poorer grasslands.

This method of beef production is by its very nature not as productive as modern beef production and so the beef produced off these sites demands a higher price.

What price are you willing to pay for wildlife friendly beef?

Prices are per Kg for Beef Cuts

For Info:

  • 1 kg mince is equivalent to 1 cottage pie for 8-10 people
  • 1kg rump steak is equivalent to 4 medium steaks
  • 1kg fillet steak is equivalent to 6 medium steaks
  • 1kg topside is equivalent to roast for 2 or 3 people
