Chesil Centre Open day July 21st 12 4.30 pm
There will be an afternoon of celebration with music, food and fun, including a host of free, family activities such as Under the Sea arts and crafts, treasure hunts and fossil digs.
There’ll be music from Weymouth-based Quangle Wangle Choir, Island Voices Community Choir from Portland and acapella group Bagatelle. Masterchef 2009 winner Mat Follas will be providing delicious food and people will also be able to go on boat trips to look at the wildlife of the Fleet lagoon.
The Centre’s first exhibition ‘A Celebration of Dorset’s Living Seas’ also opens on the day, running throughout the Olympic and Paralympic games until September 9. This marine exhibition celebrates the diverse coastline and marine life in Dorset as well as raising awareness of some of the issues that affect it. The exhibits will include marine-inspired work by local artists and school groups, local photography and conservation information.
The new Centre includes an education room, information hub and shop and a café run by Mat Follas as well as a brand new boardwalk across the Fleet lagoon, built by 26 Engineer Regiment. A permanent interpretation display will be installed during the winter.
