DWT should not express political views. Its membership base is diverse and DWT is bound to upset some of its membership by going outside its remit and expressing views as above that are one person's opinion. 'What will be, will be' with regard to the outcome of Brexit negotiations.
Having politically benign organisations such as DWT expressing partisan views on such matters is a dangerous road to take and will upset more people than it impresses. There are better ways of using DWT's time and energies than getting involved in broadcasting the political opinions of the author of this article.

David,
Thanks for reading this. I have been careful not to express any party political views. Our natural environment on land and at sea is going to be dependent on new laws and continued management. All the major environmental NGOs have together agreed that we need to get this information out there so people are aware. These aren't therefore just my personal views though I do worry what will happen. Raising such concerns so that government can address them is just the sort of thing we should and do do. You'll notice for example I have expressed no view on whether I or DWT believe we should leave or remain. What is it you specifically disagree with?

Simon

Thank goodness that we do have organisations like DWT who will stand up for the genuine interests of the environment and wildlife including marine.

There has been little attention paid in the Brexit debate from any side to ensure that the enormous environmental progress that has been made in the past 40 years is sustained and built on.

It is right that due consideration and thoughtful debate on opportunities and threats to the natural environment is brought to our wider attention by the like of DWT so that the matters raised can be addressed by the politicians. Isn't informed choice an important element of British democracy?

The anonymous contributor would seek to imply that our politicians responsible for implementing Brexit will, by default, do the right thing by the environment. I admire this contributor's confidence.
