Marketing Trustee Wanted

An interesting and rewarding opportunity has arisen to become a Trustee for Dorset Wildlife Trust (DWT), an organisation with a strong record in wildlife and environmental protection. Set-up in 1961, DWT is an exciting, modern charity with energy, drive and influence and is one of the most effective environmental charities in the country.  DWT has a growing annual income of £3 – 5 million, over 70 staff and over 45 nature reserves and centres spread across the county.

We are looking for a high calibre individual with current expertise in marketing and communications and preferably (but not necessarily) with experience of charities.

We would like to appoint a Trustee to help shape our strategies relating to marketing and public relations.

The work is extremely rewarding.  You will become part of a friendly, successful non-executive Board that guides the direction and overviews the performance of DWT.  You will work with others on the Board and with staff that have a wide range of skills and experience.  As a marketing and communications specialist, you will not necessarily have expertise in wildlife, but you will be committed to Dorset, its wildlife, habitats and landscapes.

We are keen to meet candidates with a track record of success and have the following demonstrable skills and experience:

  • Marketing and communications at a senior level
  • Branding and brand marketing
  • Digital and social media
  • Good communication and leadership skills
  • Analytical and evaluation skills, demonstrating good judgement.
  • Understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship.
  • A team-oriented approach to problem solving and to management.

The Board meets at least 4 times a year and Trustees are expected to be available for these meetings and to attend the Annual General Meeting.  You will also be a member of the Marketing & Fundraising Panel, supporting the Fundraising & Marketing Team, which will meet 4-5 times in a year.

All DWT Trustees must be members of Dorset Wildlife Trust.

The Chairman Jo Davies, or Chief Executive Dr Simon Cripps would be pleased to discuss this role informally with you, in which case, please contact Lynn Toman, PA to the Chair and Chief Executive, at

To apply please send your CV and a covering letter to the above email address indicating why you would like to be a Trustee of DWT and why you think you are suited to the advertised Trustee role.

Closing date for applications: Friday 4th January 2019.
