The Purbeck Keystone Project

This is a 3 year Heritage Lottery funded project covering the Isle of Purbeck.

Working with a range of partners, including Dorset Wildlife Trust, the project aims to support farming, stone working and outdoor education in the Isle of Purbeck. This includes farming and conservation schemes to help restore and manage habitats on the Purbeck Chalk Ridge and River Frome.

The revival of stone working is also included through the development of a working stone centre, apprenticeship schemes and dry stone walling grants.

The Dorset Swifts Project

The Dorset Swifts project is being run by DWT in partnership with the RSPB, DERC and Edward Mayer of Swift Conservation and is supported by the Dorset AONB Partnership through its Sustainable Development Fund.

The aim of the project is to raise awareness of the decline in swift populations and provide planners, statutory advisors, developers and householders with the information needed to help conserve swifts in Dorset.

This advice on providing for swifts is available on the Swift Solutions Conserving Dorset’s Swifts website along with a map showing Dorset settlements that currently support nesting swifts. A facility to submit swift sightings within Dorset is also a feature of the webpage, so keep your eyes peeled from May onwards!
