The Lookout: An update from Brownsea Island

As work on The Lookout progresses, Head of Development, Marc Kativu-Smith shares an update on this exciting development on Brownsea Island.

Work on The Lookout at Brownsea Island has been continuing, with significant progress being made with the construction and new interpretation. It is exciting to see years of planning finally taking shape.

The new wildlife observatory will have two main functions. The first will be to house wildlife displays, introducing visitors to the different habitats and species found on the Island, inspiring them to explore and enjoy all of the different nature experiences Brownsea Island has to offer. The second, is to provide stunning panoramic views across the lagoon so visitors can observe the incredible wildlife that it supports.

When completed, Dorset Wildlife Trust and National Trust volunteers will be on hand in The Lookout to talk to visitors about the wildlife they can discover on the Island.

Construction has not been without its challenges, which inevitably come from building such a unique structure on a small island, but everyone has been working hard to bring this exciting project to life and the Lookout is set to open to the public in 2024.

The Lookout is part of Dorset Wildlife Trust’s Wild Brownsea project which has been developed in partnership with the National Trust. The project is part funded by the National Heritage Lottery Fund with contributions from the National Trust, Fine Foundation, and Dorset Wildlife Trust members and supporters.

Stay tuned for more updates to come!
