Size: 0.18ha.
Orchards, once widespread in the south-west, are now few. Given to the Trust in 1979 and managed by a group of local villagers.
Wildlife interest:
- Common fruit tree varieties & old rarities such as Autumn Pearmain & King George V.
- The unimproved grassland supports many wild flowers such as ox-eye daisy, devil's-bit scabious & corky-fruited water-dropwort & also butterflies.
Best time to visit:
After the winter months. An annual 'Apple Day' is held in early October. Find out more about Apple Day at the Common Ground website.
Access:
Fairly good, with rough-mown paths, but on-site parking is limited.

Map ref: ST 791124 Turn south off the A357 at Sturminster Newton, just east of the River Stour bridge/traffic lights at Bull pub on to a minor road. Through the village of Broad Oak (1 mile) & the orchard is on the left just before a sharp bend. |
