Chalk downland, unimproved scrubby pasture, restored dewpond, veteran trees and coppice woodland.
Wildlife interest:
- Trees provide shelter for 5 tit species.
- Woodland bird species include nuthatch & treecreeper, with blackcap, garden & willow warblers amongst the summer migrants.
- Dragonfly & damselfly species inhabit the pond.
- The downland is good for butterflies.
- Wild flowers include woodsage, gorse & foxglove; rock rose & pyramidal orchid appear on the chalk slopes; marjoram & toothwort are found in the woods.
Best time to visit:
Any time, but come in summer for the display of flowers.

Limited paths with rough & steep terrain.

Map ref. ST 789038. Leave A354 at Milborne St. Andrew & follow signs for Milton Abbas, then Hilton. Park in Hilton village, please do not obstruct the church. Walk up road, for about 1 mile, directly opposite church; this then becomes a bridleway. |
