Marine Volunteering Update

 23rd Sep 2010

Kimmeridge Bay- Kerry SBeautiful sunshine and a good low tide made Sunday 12th September the perfect day for the marine volunteers’ survey and training day at Osmington Mills. 19 volunteers came along to inspect and explore the rockpools marking the first time all three marine volunteer groups, Kimmeridge, West Dorset and county-wide, have participated together. The day was a great success with many species being discovered lurking under rocks such as the beautiful strawberry and gem anemones, delicate cushion stars and even a common eel to name but a few. The afternoon was rounded off with the majority of the wardens heading to the pub for a well deserved cool drink and tasty meal.

Dorset Wildlife Trust is looking for more marine volunteers throughout the county, to monitor wildlife both along the coast and off-shore. So if you fancy getting involved please contact the volunteering program manager, Steve Davis at sdavis@dorsetwildlifetrust.org.uk.
