Michael's Peace Reserve

Size: 4.5ha.

Large pond and reedbed fed by a small stream, surrounded by wet woodland and boggy grassland below the spring line.

Wildlife interest:

  • A range of woodland plant species, including primroses & opposite-leaved golden-saxifrage.
  • The grassland has meadowsweet & marsh valerian.
  • Migrant summer warblers.
  • The reedbeds provide shelter for resident species with an occasional egret or wintering wildfowl.

Best time to visit:

Spring & summer.

Access:

Some tracks but generally difficult underfoot due to the very boggy ground.

Location:

Map ref. ST 522009.  Turn S. off A356 onto the B3163.  Turn left to Hooke then first left into narrow lane for Toller Whelme.  Very limited parking/turning.
