Site of a disused chalk pit with mostly unimproved chalk grassland.
Wildlife interest:
- Cowslips & hairy violet cover the slopes in spring.
- Small scabious, hedge bedstraw & greater knapweed in the summer.
- Yellowhammers find cover in the scrub.
Best time to visit:
Spring & summer.
Access:
Difficult, due to steep slopes & numerous holes.
Location:
Map ref. SY 642931. Take the A37 N. from Dorchester and take first turn left after Stratton. Cross the river. At the first sharp right hand bend turn left onto a rough track where the reserve entrance will be found opposite a small parking area. |
