Peascombe Reserve

Size: 3ha.

In a quiet corner of W. Dorset, this reserve is set on a hillside adjoining the village of Loders.  A grazed meadow slopes down to woodland alongside the River Aske.

Wildlife interest:

  • Typical woodland plant species such as opposite-leaved golden-saxifrage: black knapweed, common bird's-foot trefoil & ragged robin found in the grassland.
  • Dormice have been found nesting in the hedgerows.
  • Community orchard.

Best time to visit:

Spring & early summer.  The reserve gets very wet & boggy in winter.

Access:

Very limited due to the sloping ground & wet conditions underfoot.

Location:

Map ref. SY 498944.  Park at east end of the village of Loders, found on a minor road running parallel to and north of the A35, about 3 miles east of Bridport.  The reserve is a short distance on the right up and along a narrow lane heading north, just past a small graveyard.
