Sutton Holms Reserve

Size: 0.8ha.

Traditional pasture with a small pond, wet grassland, oak woodland & hedges.

Wildlife interest:

  • Plants found in the wet areas include ragged robin, meadowsweet, spotted & southern marsh orchid.
  • The meadow has betony amongst the grasses & cow-wheat grows in the woodland.
  • Orange tip butterflies early in the year, followed by marbled whites.

Best time to visit:

Spring, as the reserve wakes up.

Access:

BEFORE VISITING PLEASE MAKE PRIOR ARRANGEMENT WITH DWT.
Very wet ground conditions.

Location:

Map ref. SU 058100.  Turn S. off A354 (Blandford to Salisbury road) onto B3081.  Follow road until you reach the B3078 (Cranborne to Wimborne road), turn right.  Continue until reaching the B3081, turn left, signposted Heavy Horse Centre.  Sutton Holms is 1 mile along on the left just before right hand bend, along a small wooded drive.  Parking for 2 cars.
