Size: 6ha.
Situated in the flood plain of the Moors River. with a mixture of grazed meadows & scrubby woodland. The river margins, with their wide range of water-loving plants, are home for many insects, particularly dragon & damselflies.
Wildlife interest:
- Flag iris, purple & yellow loosestrife along the river, with a flourish of arrowhead & yellow water lily in late summer.
- Meadow thistle covers the grazed area & comfrey dominates the north of the reserve where the scarce chaser is among other dragonflies found.
- Heron, snipe & water rail.
- Butterflies include small copper, red admiral & peacock.

Summer for the flowers, butterflies & dragonflies
Access:
Often difficult due to the wet ground.

Map ref. SZ 125978. From Hurn post office travel 0.6km up Matchams Lane, turn left down a hidden track. Follow the track for approx. 250m to a parking area. Follow the track to the right of the house for 50m. Enter the reserve through a field gate. |
