The second course of Volunteer Leaders has just finished, with 11 experienced volunteers from a range of backgrounds and interests now qualified to lead work parties and guided walks on behalf of Dorset Wildlife Trust.
The volunteers, many of who have been volunteering for several years already, have been trained over 5 months in subjects such as Leadership, Health & Safety, First Aid and Communication skills. They've also had a chance to put their skills to the test by leading small groups on Brownsea Island as part of a recent young people's taster day.
Mandy was one of the volunteers who completed the course:
"I have just completed the above course with Dorset Wildlife Trust. I found the course to be informative, lively, stimulating and overall great fun! I had the opportunity to meet people from various backgrounds hoping for a similar experience.
The course covered all the fundamental aspects of what makes a good leader and pushes you to question your own view and points the way forward for a better more insightful style of leadership. It is all done in a relaxed and supportive environment which I found to be of great assistance to getting the most out of all it offers.
For anyone thinking of the challenging role of leading volunteers but feels unsure I fully recommend this course; you’ll be surprised how much you have to offer and how much you can learn. At the end the support will be there to help you develop your role and how marvellous to be able to give something back."
The next course will start in September. If you would like to register your interest in joining the Course, drop me a line at and I will contact you with more details when the dates are set. |
