Come on a Shoreline Wildlife Walk at Charmouth

West Dorset’s coastal wildlife comes under the spotlight at Dorset Wildlife Trust’s expert-guided walk at Charmouth, looking at the different habitats on this important stretch of coastline. The free event is aimed at people who would like to get involved in the new marine volunteers group in west Dorset as well as current volunteers.

New Marine Volunteering Group for West Dorset

The new group has been set up by Dorset Wildlife Trust following the success of marine volunteering in the east of the county. Julie Hatcher, Marine Awareness Officer at Dorset Wildlife Trust, said: “Dorset has been recognised as having some of the best marine wildlife in Europe and we know that local people care about their coast; this group is a chance for people in west Dorset to learn more about and help protect the wildlife of their sea and shore.”

Shark egg cases, hot drinks and cake... the perfect combination!

The Shoreline Walk will look at the varied habitats found on the beach, which can be an important haven for both marine and land animals. It is also a good place to look for clues as to what marine life can be found off-shore. Skate and shark egg cases, jelly fish, seafan skeletons and cuttlefish bones washed up on the beach can give us important information about the species and populations living nearby in the sea. Hot drinks and cakes will be on offer to warm up the walkers after their dose of fresh sea air.

The Shoreline Walk is on Saturday 22nd January from 12.30 pm to 2.30 pm at Charmouth Beach. Booking is essential on 01929 481044.
