Willow Stick Platters (Kingcombe Centre Course)

Friday 9 November 2018 09:45 - 16:00

Richard and Suzanne Kerwood of Windrush Willow will guide you through making your stick platter, also known as a Catalonian tension tray.

You will start by making a simple garland using 3 rods and go on to cut the withies for your base sticks. Over the base sticks, starting in the middle, Richard and Suzanne will guide you through weaving your rods, reducing their diameter as you work to both ends and shaping the platter as you go. By the end of the day you will have created two to three platters to take home. Whilst you work, you will hear about the history of this ancient tradition and learn about how willow is grown and harvested. You will discover the range of colours and designs together with learning the wonderful language of willow work including randing, butts, tips, slypes, mellowing, to name but a few terms.
No previous experience is required. This is a perfect course for those starting out with willow work or for those with some experience wishing to learn a new technique.

£85 pp  -  includes all tuition, materials as per above, morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea.

Arrive from 9.45am for morning tea.  The course will start at 10am and finish at 4.30pm.

What to bring:

All tools and materials are provided, however if you have a sharp pair of secateurs, a knife and notebook it would be useful. Willow work can be a little messy so we recommend you wear an apron or old clothes.
