Event details
About the event
Join us for a guided bird walk along Chesil Beach and Fleet Lagoon to the only little tern colony in the south west. With a Dorset Wildlife Trust Warden as your guide, there will also be an update on the colony from one of the RSPB Wardens who monitor and protect the site.
Little terns are the second rarest seabirds that nest in the UK, and Chesil Beach and Fleet Lagoon are internationally important areas for nature conservation, supporting a great diversity of wildlife and their associated habitats.
As well as the terns, we will aim to spot as many other species of birds as possible, and following a falling tide offers the best chance to do this. Oystercatcher and ringed plover nest alongside the terns, and we will be looking out for them as well other waders. The walk includes a talk from one of the RSPB Wardens, and there will be plenty of time to ask questions about birds and other aspects of this amazing nature reserve throughout the walk.
