Now is the perfect time to be looking out for fungi – you may find mushrooms popping up through your lawn, mysterious fungus growing on trees or toadstools hiding amongst leaf litter in the woods. Mushrooms are species that we all associate with fairytales, food and popular culture. But what actually is fungus? What do they feed on and why are they important for our ecosystem?
