Artists Workshop at Lorton Meadows
About the event
This two-day weekend course will be led by renowned local artists, Sally Pinhey and Margaret Tebbs. Sally taught art at Kingston Maurward College, and has illustrated her own best selling books. She gives talks and demonstrations to societies, and is a member of the Association of Illustrators, a Fellow of the Chelsea Physic Garden Florilegium Society and holder of RHS medals.
Margaret is a freelance artist, working in watercolour, ink and pastel. She specialises in botanical illustrations for Kew Gardens, the Linnean Society and the RHS. She also illustrates for science journals and runs courses for artists wishing to improve their knowledge of botany. Both artists are based in Dorset.
Running between 10am and 4pm each day, and based at the historic Lorton Barn, the workshop starts with a short guided walk to introduce participants to the nature reserve and the resident wildflowers. With tutoring from both artists and using samples of wild flowers/plants collected in the field, the aim is to improve illustrating/painting skills and knowledge of botany.
There will be microscopes on site for close-up views of the samples, and free parking and hot/cold drinks are provided. PowerPoint aids will run over the weekend. Participants will need to provide their own packed lunches and materials (paint, brushes, easel etc). Please find the kitlist which details the materials participants will need for the workshop here
