About the event

Are you keen to get started with bird watching this year but not sure where to begin?

The Bird Watching for Beginners course is ideal for all those who want to learn the basics of this fascinating hobby. Over three weekly, two-hour sessions you will learn how to improve your observation skills, as well as how to use binoculars and telescopes effectively in a range of different habitats. You will also learn how to find birds and interpret their behaviour in the wild, all in the company of a Dorset Wildlife Trust Warden.

Join us for week two of our Birdwatching for Beginners Course. This week we will be learning how to identify some of the waders and sea birds found along Chesil Beach and Fleet Lagoon. We recommend attending all three weeks of this course and you will receive a free copy of the Bloomsbury Concise Bird Guide.

Chesil Beach and Fleet Lagoon are internationally important areas for nature conservation, supporting a great diversity of wildlife and their associated habitats.

Throughout the guided walk we will aim to spot as many species of birds as possible, and an early start whilst following a falling tide offers the best chance to see many of our waders including oystercatcher, ringed plover and hopefully little tern. As well as birding hints and tips there will be plenty of time to ask questions and more information about the nature reserve will be given throughout the walk.

This event is suitable for beginners to birdwatching and for families, but all children (min. age 8 yrs) must be accompanied by an adult at all times. The sessions all start early in the morning and last for two hours. Please aim to arrive 5-10 minutes before the start time.
