About the event

Adam lives in West Dorset and runs spoon-carving courses across the UK. During this one-day workshop, you’ll discover how to safely use the axe, knife and hook knife; what to look for when selecting wood; the principles of spoon design; and how to carve with confidence. Develop a passion for this heritage craft and enjoy a deeper connection with the natural world.

Your spoons will be made from locally sourced greenwood, and you’ll have the opportunity to create a unique piece using the simple hand tools provided.

After spending ten years swinging from trees as an arborist, Adam decided he needed a job that kept both feet firmly on the ground while still allowing him to remain close to the woodland around him. Having previously studied engineering, woodworking felt like a natural step, and working with the natural inclination of green wood soon grew into a true passion.

Many of Adam’s spoons feature exquisite kolrosing decoration, a traditional Scandinavian technique in which fine incised cuts create a pattern. The spoon is then oiled and a colourant rubbed into the cuts before being burnished, sealing the design in place.
