About the event

Aimed at beginners and novices who want to explore the world of bats, this workshop will introduce you to these incredible nocturnal creatures and their ecology, guided by a bat expert with in-depth knowledge of the bats at Kingcombe and across Dorset.

This evening course will cover various aspects of bat ecology and life history, including anatomy, flight, life cycle, and echolocation. The discussion will also consider the 18 UK bat species, their habitat use, and conservation.

Tutor Nick, a member of the Dorset Bat Group, has been researching bats in Dorset and beyond for over 25 years. He leads numerous activities, projects, and surveys to enhance understanding of these remarkable animals. Nick also runs a variety of training events and courses, including co-tutoring the Bat Conservation Trust’s Advanced Bat Survey Techniques course.

Kingcombe Meadows Nature Reserve, surrounding the Kingcombe Visitor Centre, is renowned for its diverse habitats and species and was designated a National Nature Reserve in 2021.
