About the event
Join us at Kingcombe National Nature Reserve for a day in the field exploring the often overlooked yet extraordinary world of mosses and lichens. These ancient, non-flowering plants form lush carpets, cushion rocks, and weave miniature forests that many of us pass by without a second glance. Through hands-on learning and guided exploration, you’ll discover their unique structures, surprising adaptations and vital roles within ecosystems. Whether you’re a curious beginner or a seasoned nature enthusiast, this immersive day outdoors will open your eyes to the beauty and importance of these small but mighty plants.
Jim White is one of the county’s leading botanists and has a long-standing relationship with Kingcombe Meadows and Dorset Wildlife Trust. A wonderful tutor with a wealth of knowledge, Jim studied botany at university before embarking on a successful career that included working for organisations such as English Nature.
