Free screening of the People's Emergency Briefing at The Pavilion, Bournemouth

Residents from across Dorset are invited to attend a special screening of the People's Emergency Briefing for the whole community at The Pavilion, Bournemouth, on Tuesday 20 October at 6pm. Admission is free, and everyone is welcome.

The People's Emergency Briefing is a new film which brings together leading UK experts to explain, in clear and accessible terms, what the latest science says about the climate and nature crisis, how it is already affecting people's lives, and what can still be done. Rather than focusing on politics or campaigning, the film offers an evidence-based overview from specialists in areas including climate science, food systems, health, economics, national security, and extreme weather.

Hosted by Dorset Wildlife Trust in association with Dorset Chamber, BCP Council and Transition Town Poole and kindly sponsored by Lush, the screening will be followed by an open discussion led by a panel including Brian Bleese, Chief Executive of Dorset Wildlife Trust, Darren Langdown from Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service and Julia Davies of We Have The POWER who will explore the film’s key themes before taking questions from the audience.

Brian Bleese said: “Whatever your perspective on these issues, this event is an opportunity to hear from leading experts and join an open discussion with others from across our community. The People's Emergency Briefing presents the latest scientific evidence in a clear and accessible way, helping people understand how climate change and nature loss are already affecting our lives here in Dorset and beyond. We hope this will be the start of a positive and inclusive conversation about Dorset’s future and how we can respond to the challenges and opportunities ahead.”

Organisers are keen to emphasise that the event is open to everyone and is not a campaign event. No prior knowledge of climate or environmental issues is needed, and people are encouraged to come along with an open mind and take part in the discussion. The event is suitable for those aged 16 and over.
