About the event

Come along to the Wild Chesil Centre to hear about the return of beavers in Dorset, followed by a delicious hot soup lunch from the Pebble Pig Cafe.

Eurasian beavers (Castor fiber) are once again recognised as a resident native species in England. They are one of the world’s most adept natural engineers, with an incredible ability to create new wetlands, restore habitats and promote biodiversity, benefitting a wide range of other species.

Dorset Wildlife Trust released two beavers back in February 2021, as part of an enclosed scientific study looking at the impact's beavers have on their environment. Learn about these unique mammals and discover how the beavers have been doing since being on site, and how their industrious habits have affected the hydrology and wildlife in the project area.

You’ll hear from Steve Oliver, Dorset Wildlife Trust's Rivers Conservation Officer, who will talk about this exciting local project, what the future holds and how Dorset Wildlife Trust are trying to raise awareness and understanding about beavers returning to Dorset as we learn to live alongside these influential mammals once again.

The talk will start at 11:00am and will last approximately one hour. Please aim to arrive 5-10 minutes before the start time. The soup, which is included in the ticket price, will be served after the talk.
