Early Spring Hedgerows in Pen and Wash (Kingcombe Centre Course)
Saturday 10 March 2018 10:00 - Sunday 11 March 2018 16:00
The hedgerows around Kingcombe are fascinating at any time of year. Early Spring hedgerows will provide inspiration and a great subject matter to illustrate in pen and ink and watercolour wash.
This course is ideal for those that would like keep a nature journal or sketchbook. During the day we will explore the use of different inks and pens to create line and tonal drawings, which will then be enhanced with a watercolour wash. Among the inks we will be trying are Oak gall ink, which has been used for hundreds of years for historical illustrations and documents, and also Walnut ink. Affordable technical drawing pens will be used as well as traditional dip pens.
Sarah combines science and art in producing paintings and illustrations that immerse you in many aspects of the natural world and its processes. She hopes to raise awareness of the beauty and fragility of nature in all its forms - from individual species to declining habitats. Fieldwork and drawing from life plays a large part in the process, along with research; growing and nurturing botanical subjects and working from museum specimens.
Her love of exploration, both near and far combines with her ecological knowledge such as developing her garden to benefit wildlife, and a passion for teaching. Sarah’s courses, workshops and personal tuition seek to inspire, encourage and motivate artists of any level of experience. Teaching approaches are carefully planned and structured to suit group learning experiences as well as individual needs, both in person and online.
