Sketching The Beauty of Owls Workshop (Kingcombe Centre Course)

Thursday 8 March 2018 10:00 - Friday 9 March 2018 16:00

Sketching-the-beauty-of-owls-workshop--Sarah-Morrishmain

Experience the incredible opportunity of having live owls as your sketching subject on this popular drawing and painting weekend.

The aim of the course is to give everybody the opportunity to sketch using live owls as subject matter. ‘Sketch’ being the emphasis for the morning part of the course.

These words from Naturalist and Artist John Muir Laws summarises the purpose of field sketching perfectly:

‘A field sketch is not about making a perfect illustration;
instead it is a tool that allows you to look more closely’.
‘The sketching process cements memories in your mind’

Beebo and Eddi, the barn and tawny owl, will be joining us each morning of the course for a 2 hour sketching
session. In the afternoon there will be the opportunity to develop your sketches further using more detailed graphite pencil techniques and watercolour paints, using photo reference images and museum specimens.  Sarah combines science and art in producing paintings and illustrations that immerse you in many aspects of the natural world and its processes. She hopes to raise awareness of the beauty and fragility of nature in all its forms - from individual species to declining habitats. Fieldwork and drawing from life plays a large part in the process, along with research; growing and nurturing botanical subjects and working from museum specimens.

Her love of exploration, both near and far, combines with her ecological knowledge such as developing her garden to benefit wildlife; and a passion for teaching. Sarah’s courses, workshops and personal tuition seek to inspire, encourage and motivate artists of any level of experience. Teaching approaches are carefully planned and structured to suit group learning experiences as well as individual needs, both in person and online.
